Fredericksburg Considers Staff Position to Address Affordable Housing

On July 1, Fredericksburg’s City Council held a public hearing on the budget and the Workforce Development Committee requested that the City include a budget item for the creation of a staff position focused on this community’s affordable housing crisis. The committee said there currently is no expert in affordable housing with the knowledge and skills to move the city forward through options in federal and state grants, loans, and bonds. And there is a need for someone to focus on coordinating public-private discussions. The city council has yet to sign off on the new position, but it’s still on the table.
